This #GivingTuesday, Russian Riverkeeper will celebrate giving with a goal of raising the $15,000 “Truck Bucks” to finally purchase a new, much-needed truck for its Clean River Alliance (CRA) program.
#GivingTuesday is a global day of giving that harnesses the collective power of individuals, communities and organizations to encourage philanthropy and to celebrate generosity worldwide. Following Thanksgiving and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this year’s #GivingTuesday will take place on November 27th and will kick off the giving season by inspiring people to collaborate and give back.
Since 1993, Russian Riverkeeper has worked to restore and sustain the health of the Russian River. Clean River Alliance is one of the programs that works to accomplish this goal. Founded in 2014 by Chris Brokate, Clean River Alliance removes trash from the Russian River watershed and educates our citizens. CRA organizes public cleanups throughout the Russian River watershed from Hopland in Mendocino County to the mouth of the river in Jenner, as well as on numerous Sonoma County beaches and tributary creeks throughout Santa Rosa. Their work also includes disaster response work (flood and fire), Caltrans Adopt-a-Highway programs, and homeless outreach to mitigate the effects of unsanctioned camping along the river and creeks. CRA has been recognized by Sonoma County and State agencies for its dedication and commitment to protecting the environment.
So why the #TruckBucks #GivingTuesday campaign? Since 2014, Chris and Clean River Alliance have been hauling all of this trash in Chris’s own personal truck – a 2000 Chevy ½ ton with nearly 300,000 miles. This truck has consistently been overloaded and the engine is not keeping up. In fact, it has broken down on numerous occasions leaving Chris to do his work with his other car – a Prius! With a bigger, newer truck, CRA will be able to reduce the number of trips needed between sites, will be able to use dump trailer to its full capacity and ultimately will save money due to being more efficient. It’s time for CRA to have a real work truck! Our #GivingTuesday #TruckBucks campaign goal is to match our current “TruckBucks” fund (generously given by Wine Country Weekend and CRA supporters) of $15K giving CRA a total of $30K for a new truck.
