This month, we worked with Clear Heart Drilling and Luhdorff Scalmanini Consulting Engineers to install new groundwater monitoring wells so we can gather data from up to 60 feet deep. Groundwater monitoring will ensure that the restoration doesn’t impact drinking water supplies and will tell us more about the state of our aquifers.

Restoring natural floodplains and wetlands allows water to slowly seep into the water table and recharge our groundwater and clean drinking water supply. Groundwater supports the river, especially through drier months, when there is little direct input from rainfall. The flow of groundwater into rivers as seepage through the river bed, known as baseflow, is essential to the health of wildlife and plants that live in the water.

Just one more way our Hanson restoration is giving back to the community!
