Erosion Control Installer: $25 per hour

This is a temporary part-time hourly position of 30-40 hours per week for up to one year.  Up to 3 days paid sick leave after 90 days. The Erosion Control Installer will report to Program Director.

Job Overview

As stewards of the Russian River, Russian Riverkeeper has an important role with the County of Sonoma to work with the owners of properties affected by catastrophic wildfires to protect sensitive waterways from toxic and polluting runoff.  Erosion Control Installers will carry out installation of Best Management Practices (BMPs) onto the landscape around fire-affected properties and creeks.  Success in this role will control erosion of steep terrain during rainfall, keeping excess soils and contaminants from entering creeks and rivers, thus protecting habitat and regional water supply.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Install BMPs (such as straw wattles) with maximum effectiveness and consistency.
  • Work as a team and independently following instructions and training.
  • Act respectfully and cooperatively with property owners.
  • Lift heavy loads of materials and safely transport across unstable ground to the installation locations.
  • Work in hazardous conditions wearing Personal Protective Equipment including masks, gloves, hardhats.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to labor strenuously on steep terrain and loose, unstable soils, carrying up to 45 pounds over long distances throughout the day.
  • Excellent communication skills to their work as part of a team; be able to follow instructions; ability to independently carry out duties with efficiency and precision.
  • Be proficient with use of hand tools such as shovel, pick axe, rake and sledgehammer.
  • Valid CA driver’s license and reliable vehicle for self-sufficient transportation to sites due to Covid precautions.

Experience and Aptitudes

  • Flexibility and ease in working outdoors.
  • Experience in landscaping, habitat restoration, construction, natural resources management, or firefighting
  • Desire and ability to work as a member of a productive team.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit approximately 0% of the time, walk 50% of the time, stand 20% of the time, and bend or squat 30% of the time.  The employee is required to use hands and arms to use tools, and must frequently lift and carry loads up to 45 pounds.  The employee is frequently required to speak and listen.  Specific vision abilities of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Este es un puesto temporal, de 30 a 40 horas por semana durante un año.
